Colorado Springs, Colorado – Automotive student Tracy Nelson nails his 1810 and 1820 training simulator tests with perfect scores; a feat that has only been matched once before at IntelliTec College. Tracy received a Certificate of Accomplishment and some much deserved admiration from his fellow students. This achievement should give Nelson a leg up over the competition when he enters into his new career as an Automotive Technician.
Tracy describes the 1810 and 1820 training simulators as basically circuit boards that allow a student to train with vehicle wiring and electrical circuits. The simulators teach students how to work with and read the meters that are used in automotive shops.
Program Instructor Phil Nierode has been teaching automotive for 9 years, 7 of them with IntelliTec College. He describes Tracy as “a determined hard working student with a desire to succeed and is always attentive in class.” Mr. Nierode is passionate about teaching and says his favorite thing about it is “watching…(the students) grasp how electricity works and use this knowledge to diagnose electrical problems.”
Mr. Nierode was also instructor to Virgal Baker, to his knowledge the only other student from IntelliTec’s automotive program to have aced the 1810 and 1820 training simulators. He describes Virgal as being incredibly driven, blasting through all the material faster than he could teach it.
Textbook learning is part of IntelliTec’s Automotive Technician curriculum, but the main focus in this program is that the students have the chance to work hands-on in a real-world setting.
