Liquid crystal on silicon or LCoS is a microdisplay technology wherein liquid crystals are fabricated on a silicon device which contains control electronics. LCoS is a reflective microdisplay technology based on a silicon backplane. Electronic circuits controlling the liquid crystals are constructed on a silicon chip and then coated with a highly reflective surface. These devices compete with DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology in the pico projector and projector markets. Viewfinders in the camera are also key application area of LCoS technology.
