Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights is among the first hospitals in the Chicago area to partner with iTriage, a smart phone application and acute-care decision tool developed by Healthagen LLC. The free app provides mobile access to vital medical information and services, such as finding the nearest Emergency Room from any location. It can also be accessed through any Web-enabled device at www.iTriageHealth.com.
“We’re always looking for new ways to reach our consumers and provide them with the latest healthcare information,” said Bruce Crowther, NCH’s president and CEO. “By giving patients on-the-go access to medical information, they are better prepared to seek care when time is short. The iTriage app is fast and easy to use.”
Through iTriage, NCH provides details about its facilities in Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove and Lake Zurich. Smart phone users can quickly get information on services offered, hours of operation, and even immediate turn-by-turn directions based on the user’s GPS location.
The iTriage technology also allows consumers to evaluate symptoms, learn about possible causes of illness, and find appropriate locations for medical treatment anywhere in the United States. Mobile users accumulate more than 2 million page views on iTriage each month.
“This brings healthcare to a new level of accessibility, and we’re excited to be a part of it,” Crowther said. “We know the Internet has become the top resource for health questions and that most patients research symptoms online before talking to their doctor.”
Built by emergency room physicians, iTriage aggregates healthcare information in a structured and actionable way, and closes the information gap that often exists between doctors and patients. The app provides data on more than 300 symptoms, 1,000 diseases and 350 medical procedures.
“When hospitals put useful medical information in their patients hands with iTriage, consumers are empowered to make informed decisions,” said Peter Hudson, MD, CEO of Healthagen and co-founder of iTriage. “We live in a new world that enables patients to be better informed and play a larger role in their healthcare.”
Consumers can download the free iTriage app by visiting the hospital’s website at www.nch.org.
