PokerListings.com is honored to announce the 2013 edition of its flagship Battle of Malta live poker tournament has officially been nominated for Best European Poker Event of the Year.
A high-profile category at the Global Poker Index European Poker Awards the award for Best European Event considers only the most memorable and talked-about individual poker events across the continent (not including poker circuits).
The members of the GPI nomination panel are an elite list of poker-industry professionals and experts in the European poker landscape that value creativity and the overall feel of the event. The Battle of Malta, in just its second year, will compete against established tournaments such as EPT Barcelona, EPT Grand Final Monte Carlo and WPT Cyprus.
The inaugural Battle of Malta in 2012 drew 349 entries and topped its €150,000 guarantee. This past year, with an increased €200,000 guarantee but the same accessible €550 buy-in, a phenomenal 888 players took over the Portomaso Casino and the €440,000 prize pool smashed the guarantee.
The 2013 Battle of Malta is also now officially the biggest and richest poker tournament ever held on Malta and the “BOM” (as players refer to it) is firmly established as a must-attend event in the apex of European summer.
“We are extremely honored to be nominated in this elite category,” PokerListings CEO Martin Carlesund said, “and very proud of the product we have put together.
“In just its second year the Battle of Malta surpassed all expectations and the response we got from players was overwhelming and contagious.
“We’re already preparing a jaw-dropping product full of surprises for 2014 with even more of the “poker holiday” feel everyone has loved.”
Winners will be announced later this week. Visit PokerListngs.com to see the results.
