The service assurance market worldwide generated USD3.08 billion in revenue in 2014, up 3.7% from USD2.97 billion in 2013 - Tektronix Communications retained the leading position in 2014
The introduction of VoLTE technology, SOC and CEM initiatives, and the roll-out of LTE in emerging markets contributed to the growth in the service assurance software systems market. Many vendors expanded into adjacent segments, such as RAN optimisation, and some vendors started unifying their assurance solutions to address the challenges faced by communications service providers (CSPs), such as the total cost of ownership (TCO) and operational efficiency.
Tektronix Communications retained the leading position in 2014. NetScout Systems entered the top six, taking fifth place and replacing CA, which dropped out of the top six. Tektronix retained the top spot, but its market share declined because of declining sales in its overall business, particularly in Europe and North America. IBM completed the acquisition of The Now Factory, which helped it to retain the second spot. Growth in the service management sub- segment offset declining revenue in other sub-segments. Hewlett-Packard';s retained its position thanks to its strength in the legacy fault and event management segment, as well as its success from its ‘service operations factory'; offering.
JDSU's technology acquisitions started to yield results, which enabled it to marginally increase its revenue and maintain its 6.1% share of the market. NetScout entered the top six with a market share of 5.4%, replacing CA in the fifth spot. NetScout is in the process of acquiring Tektronix, backed by strong business fundamentals and continued revenue growth. Ericsson retained sixth position, but its overall revenue was flat. Its revenue grew in North America, driven by OSS modernisation engagements with large Tier 1 CSPs. Revenue in the ‘Other'; category increased because CSPs were investing in service management solutions in 2014.
