Service Delivery Platforms: Worldwide Market Shares 2014

Press Release   •   Aug 06, 2015 03:29 EDT

The service delivery platform market generated USD5.8 billion in revenue worldwide in 2014, up 11% from USD5.2 billion in 2013

LTE's impact on the overall service delivery platform (SDP) market increased, first in subscriber data management (SDM), then policy management (PM), followed by mobile content management and delivery (CMD), and finally, telecoms application servers (TAS) for mobile data and VoLTE services. Virtualised SDPs were being introduced in 2014. China had the highest revenue growth in 2014, followed by North America and the Middle East, as a result of LTE-related services. Huawei enjoyed the highest year-on-year revenue growth, but the top-five SDP vendors were unchanged. Amdocs returned to the top six, thanks to a severe decline in Cisco's fixed CMD (FCMD).

The worldwide service delivery platforms (SDP) market will grow from USD5.2 billion in 2013 to USD8.3 billion in 2018, at a CAGR of 10%. LTE will be the strongest technology driver, as Tier 1 communications service providers (CSPs) invest in VoLTE. Expansion, upgrades and replacement of SDP components to deliver services to a growing LTE subscriber base will be the main drivers of spending in the SDP market. Growth in video content consumption will increase the demand for multi-screen video services in Wi-Fi-enabled homes as well as video optimisation on LTE networks. CSPs will compete more with over-the-top (OTT) service providers for the same voice, messaging and video services revenue. This will drive spending on more-modern SDPs.

CSPs will spend more on SDP systems to enable new digital services and B2B2B/C business models, as they attempt to generate new revenue streams outside traditional telecoms services. Customer experience management (CEM), contextual analytics, as well as IoT/M2M and digital home services will drive growth from 2016 onwards, as spending on VoLTE slows. Network function virtualisation (NFV) will reduce the cost and maintain the carrier-grade performance of SDPs.
