Continued cooperation between Stockholm Center for Dependency Disorders and Alcosystems
Alcosystems has signed an agreement with the Stockholm Center for Dependency Disorders to evaluate Alcosystems’ solution iBAC, a small reliable breathalyzer connected to a mobile application. This provides an opportunity for the Center’s patients to test themself wherever they are and therefore do not need to leave e.g. work to perform the test. Patients can also log on to their own profile in order to monitor their results, and use these together with the therapist. This results in that the number of tests can be increased by several hundred percent, for example 20 tests a week instead of the usual 2-3, which also saves costly time for the clinic that now can be used for other things.
The system includes a small and very reliable breathalyzer (alcometer), with built-in Bluetooth, which allows it to transmit the result to a mobile phone application. The application shows the value and sends it to a website where patients can log on to check their readings. The breathalyzer, iBAC, is tested and verified by MHF (Swedish Abstaining Motorists’ Association.
During 2010 the Stockholm Center for Dependency Disorders tested an earlier version of iBAC breathalyzer and has now decided to continue the cooperation with Alcosystems and the new product. The evaluation includes a group of 20 patients over a period of six months, starting in August 2011. The purpose of evaluation is for Stockholm Center for Dependency Disorders to verify if the system contributes positively for the patients and the Center’s operation. If the result is successful, the system can most likely contribute to better outcome of treatment for the patients included in the test program and also reduce costs in both resources and money for the Center.
Stefan Borg, Medical Director of Stockholm Center for Dependency Disorders, believes that this solution has great potential both to change the treatment with help of modern technology and that the solution can contribute to major cost savings for Stockholm County Council, compared with current methods.
