Pair Of Brothers Bring Diversity To Comics, Manga, and Anime and Invite A Following Of Pop Culture Fans To Their Online Community and Store

Ohio residents and brothers Terry and Justin Raimey ask whether or not there is enough ethnic diversity represented in pop culture and entertainment. They are a pair of creative entrepreneurs with a relentless passion for comics, manga, and anime. Their online business is Black Streak Entertainment and they intend it as a major beacon for tweens, teens, and young adults seeking relatable characters in entertainment. This includes providing what they refer to as original characters, “...done OUR way, for OUR culture.”

Through their Black Streak Entertainment business, their mission is to proactively address the issue by directly providing more diversity.

The two have distinctly different art styles as they both share in creation and production for the business. Terry focuses on writing and marketing, while Justin is author and illustrator of their Fiji Random signature teen-fiction graphic novel series, and creator of the majority of comic characters depicted throughout the brothers’ various product lines.

Under lifelong influence of Japanese pop culture (comic, manga, anime) art forms, the ‘brothers Raimey,’ launched Black Streak Entertainment in 2011. Black Streak brings the Raimey’s distinctly urban-ethnic style and sensitivity to the American teen-fiction genre.

The Raimeys have attended Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo and visited Tokyo. They are serious experts on the subject of Japanese pop culture and how it has influenced Western culture; how Western cultural images and storylines have remained for the most part, exclusionary.

With Black Streak Entertainment, they are creating and gaining exposure for art that appeals to a multicultural mix of fans. They intend to share and help grow their passion for pop culture, particularly their love for graphic-fiction, manga, and anime, with new -racially diverse- audiences of creatives and young people.

“It’s important to provide entertainment and pleasant experiences in entertainment through relatable characters,” said Terry.

“It’s important for tolerance and understanding not just in the U.S. but worldwide, for people to connect, communicate, and again, be able to relate. We hope to -without getting too heavy with it- we hope to make a difference in our own small way, through the art and products from Black Streak Entertainment at our online store,” he added.

“From broken homes to bullying, our young characters go through things and experience issues real teenagers -living in the real world- do,” added Justin.

“Black Streak Entertainment is fun with a purpose,” concluded Terry.

The brothers have major plans for Black Streak Entertainment products to provide uplifting, thought-provoking moments to the lives of the young people the business touches, through its art and product lines including character branded: graphic-novels; posters and prints; accessories; button-pins, and stickers.
