San Francisco-based saxophonist Charles Unger declares Kickstarter funded for Around the World album

Charles Unger, an innovatie saxophonist, composer and bandleader of the Jazz and R&B band Charles Unger Experience, announces that his Kickstarter campaign for Around The World album was successfully funded on November 10.  

“I’m ecstatic.  And I'm so grateful to all my backers,” says Charles. “It’s been a wonderful experience. I’m excited to begin the fulfillment of the rewards and to share the recording process with my backers.”

And he’s looking forward to begin planning for the new recording.  

"I plan to work with my Wednesday night group of musicians.  We’ve a nice contemporary sound,” says Charles. “I plan to feature several other musicians.  I want this album to be a cooperative effort. I’m also planning to add vocals and I would like to include a few straight ahead songs.”

Around the World will feature elements of Jazz, Blues and R&B.  The music is inspired by musicians Charles has performed with and his many travels to different places around the world.   The album will have nine original compositions already recorded, several of which will be re-recorded, and five additional tracks to be recorded.   New songs include “Just Another Day in LA,” mixing the sound of the ocean with the hustle and the bustle of city and the “Song for Nelson,” with South African influences.   

“This music that I’m doing is a lifelong desire to bring unity to the world through music,” says Charles. 

Charles has spiritual views on music:  “I look at music as a catalyst for bringing different people together and breaking down barriers that separate us from our oneness and our humanity. I try to put that into my music as a way of relating that we all share this beautiful planet together and that we are all on the same road, are all the same people, and are all family. If I can break down barriers through music, then I will have fulfilled my destiny.”

“As it turned out, a number of people wanted to pledge as the Kickstarter deadline had passed,” says Charles.  The campaign will therefore be open “offline” for another few weeks, until Sunday, December 1.  All rewards will be honored as described at the Kickstarter campaign, at http://kck.st/1fGbMtN. Additional money will be used to enhance the recording and production. 

The Kickstarter campaign raised $5,592.  A portion of that money will be used to fulfill the rewards.  The remainder will be used to finish recording, mixing and mastering.  In addition, there’re costs for creating artwork, manufacturing, duplication, packaging and distribution.   

Charles is also planning for delivering the rewards, including creating a ringtone, providing music downloads, CDs, artwork, t-shirts and an opportunity to sing or play an instrument with him when he performs at Les Joulins Jazz Bistro in San Francisco on Wednesdays and Fridays. 

“So very thankful to my backers,” says Charles.  “Cannot thank them enough."
