Farm managers to get recognition they deserve

IntraFish is partnering with industry to award the farm managers whose innovation, dedication and hard slog keep the industry afloat.

March 7-8 will see aquaculture professionals from all over the world gather in Bergen, Norway to network, swap notes and most importantly, recognize the work of their farm managers.

Farm workers operate in diverse and difficult environments fraught with daily challenges and are simultaneously the protectors and growers of their companies future revenue.  You probably wouldn't find an aquaculture company anywhere that doesn’t recognize this group of professionals daily contributions to aquaculture -- but as with production staff in many industries their work is never done.

"[The farm manager] is such a key position in aquaculture companies and requires such a delicate combination of science, management, instinct, experience and creative thinking,”Lara Barazi-Yeroulanos, CEO of Greek seabass and seabream farmer Kefalonia Fisheries, told IntraFish.

The IntraFish Excellence in Aquaculture Awards 2013 has two broad aims: to bring together professionals who rarely meet, to exchange ideas and experiences; and to recognize individuals and teams from around the world for driving aquaculture forward on the front line.

This event has been in the planning for seven months and is the result of industry feedback and the involvement of key sponsors including DSM Dyneema, Hvalpsund Net and Alltech.

One such participant is Tore Laugsand, formerly Production Director at Codfarmers of Norway.  Laugsand’s 30 years' experience in farm management make his input the kind of useful hands-on content those attending the networking day can expect.  "Once in a while the industry needs to honor their people and to recognize colleagues for excellent efforts over time" Laugsand says.

“I have worked in the industry for almost 30 years, with different species and for different companies and I believe gathering colleagues together like this is a great way to share experiences with other fish farm experts”.

Meet Laugsand and other aquaculture professionals in Bergen on the 7th and 8th of March.

Because of the global scope of these awards IntraFish has decided to limit this first event to finfish.

Speakers for the networking event are being identified and you can see the program on this page for an outline of what to expect.  Deadline for nominations is Feb. 23 so visit the website to nominate if you haven’t already done so.

If you are interested in nominating, attending or just want to know more about what we are doing please get in touch.
