Press Release

About the decision process for the New Karolinska Solna University Hospital

Apr 09, 2010 04:00 EDT

In early May 2010, the Stockholm County Council Assembly will decide on which company will be awarded the task of building the New Karolinska Solna University Hospital. As a PPP-project (Public Private Partnership), the task also incorporates facility management and financing.

The procurement process is performed according to Swedish laws for public procurement. Details about the procurement process are thus confidential until the decision on the winning bid has been made by the Stockholm County Council Assembly.

The New Karolinska Solna University Hospital is a PPP-project (Public Private Partnership) which in this case entails that the Stockholm County Council will at the same time decide on procurement of construction, financing, as well as facilities management for the completed university hospital.

The decision will include a presentation of the winning bid, as well as a description of financial and other obligations that will affect the Stockholm County Council upon entering into a project agreement.

In addition, the Stockholm County Council will also decide upon the general principles for healthcare at the new hospital, the Concept NKS.

Decision to be taken 4 May 2010

Due to legal requirements, all details about the procurement process are confidential until the complete process has been concluded. This will be when the Stockholm County Council Assembly has made their decision as to the winning bid.

This decision is expected on May 4 2010. However, the process may also require further discussions in the Council Assembly, which is why May 6 has also been reserved.

In conjunction with the decision of the Stockholm County Council Assembly, a press meeting will be held, and the result released to the media.

Largest hospital project in Sweden

The decision to establish the New Karolinska Solna University Hospital is the single largest healthcare infrastructure project ever in Sweden. The procurement has a considerable financial value, as well as being an innovative force for the Swedish healthcare system.
