NKS attracts investments in life sciences
Stockholms City, Solna City, the Stockholm County Council, the Karolinska Institute, the Royal Inst. of Technology and the Stockholm University have made a joint manifest to the development of the areas surrounding the New Karolinska Solna university hospital.
The goal is to establish a world-leading life sciences area with immediate proximity to the Karolinska Institutet and the New Karolinska Solna university hospital. A total of about five billion euros are expected to be invested in a wide range of projects during the next fifteen years.
"The New Karolinska Solna university hospital inspires forward thinking and development, not only for healthcare. A number of important projects are in progress, each supporting the development of the area into one of the leading in the world for medical sciences and technology. This also ensures the know-how to establish the world's best healthcare", say's Lennart Persson, Head of the project.
Examples of projects in development:
Science for Life Laboratory A laboratory for research in the fields of proteomics and genomics.
A collaboration between the Royal Inst. of Technology, the Uppsala University and the Stockholm University.
Scandinavian Life Sciences A science park for industry with strong coupling to life sciences research. The center is to be built with immediate access to the New Karolinska Solna university hospital.
This project is being developmed by Oslo Næringseiendom.
Karolinska Institutet Science Park A science park for companies within life sciences, adjacent to the Karolinska Institutet.
Tors Torn towers Two high-rise buildings creating a entrance to the Norra Station area. One of the two towers shall be dedicated to life sciences companies.

The New Karolinska Solna University Hospital is a new university hospital to be complete late 2015. Managing the project, to create a state-of-the art facility for healthcare, medical education, and life science research, is the New Karolinska Solna Administration, a part of the Stockholm County Council.
