2009 Nobel Prize Announcements are the first live stream event on YouTube broadcast from Europe
The official Nobel Prize-branded channel on YouTube (www.youtube.com/thenobelprize) will host the premiere of the first live stream event on YouTube broadcast from Europe, with a live stream of the 2009 Nobel Prize Announcements available for YouTube viewers worldwide.
Nobelprize.org, the official website of the Nobel Foundation, manages TheNobelPrize YouTube channel, containing content from their vast archives that have been gathered since the first Nobel Prize was awarded in 1901. TheNobelPrize YouTube channel helps spread information about all the amazing discoveries, inventions, achievements and inspirational stories that have been rewarded by the Nobel Prize.
Hans Mehlin, Director of Technology at Nobelprize.org says, "We are delighted to be the first YouTube channel to stream live in Europe to YouTube audiences worldwide and to provide an additional platform to watch the official news about the Nobel Prizes."
The live video is streamed using Adobe Flash platform and the Content Delivery Network is provided by Akamai. The software was developed in-house at Nobelprize.org.
The first announcement, for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, is scheduled on Monday, October 5, at 11:30 a.m. CET (9:30 a.m. GMT). If you cannot follow the live web cast, the announcements as well as exclusive interviews will be available as video on-demand on YouTube after a few hours.
