Press release -

Discuss the Future of Energy with six Nobel Laureates and world-leading experts – Our international team of bloggers start the debate today

On the 9th of December, Nobel Laureates, business leaders and other world-leading experts will meet in Gothenburg, Sweden to discuss the future of energy in a full-day, open seminar that will be globally live-streamed. To engage all sectors of society in this crucial discussion, an all-star team of bloggers, including Alice Bell (The Guardian), John Timmer (Ars Technica) and Justin Wu (Bloomberg Energy), will add their voices to the dialogue via the event blog, which is now live.

As part of the official Nobel Week programme, the 2013 Nobel Week Dialogue is an event that brings together a truly unique panel of six Nobel Laureates, world-leading scientists, policy makers and thought leaders. This year, Nobel Week Dialogue is themed “Exploring the Future of Energy” and will be live-streamed across the globe viawww.nobelweekdialogue.org– so, no matter where you are, you too can play a part.

At the heart of this event is the open dialogue across science, business and the greater society. To enhance audience participation and offer different perspectives on the global energy challenges, an international team of bloggers will also share their insights on the event and offer the public even closer interactions with the panellists.

The blog team includes Alice Bell, a Guardian blogger and academic interested in science policy and media and Justin Wu, a clean energy professional who works for Bloomberg on their “Energy Finance” stream. There will be two physicists on the team too – Michael Banks from Physics World and Laurie Winkless who has a background in energy harvesting. Two of the blog team from the 2012 event will return - John Timmer from Ars Technica and Ash Jogalekar, a blogger for Scientific American. Joining them are Lou Woodley, Communities Specialist for Nature Publishing Group and, as the event is based in Gothenburg, representatives from two Swedish blogs - Ekologistas and Supermiljöbloggen. The entire team will be led by Beatrice Lugger, a science journalist and social media expert from the National Institute for Science Communication, Germany.

The bloggers come from a wide range of backgrounds – from physics to science education – and will offer a diverse range of articles to accompany the event. They will also live-tweet from NWD13 – all of their Twitter handles are included below. Visit the blog at http://www.nobelweekdialogue.org/blog/ to meet the team and share your comments.

The programme for NWD13 brings together 35 world-renowned experts, including six Nobel Laureates, who will lead the dialogue in 15 different seminars throughout the day. Nobel Laureates such as Steven Chu, Mario Molina and David Gross will lead the discussions, on everything from nuclear and fossil fuels to sustainability and energy access.

The online audience will be fully involved in Nobel Week Dialogue this year – the entire event will be streamed on the homepage from 10am CET on December 9th. Questions to the panellists can already be submitted via our site: http://www.nobelweekdialogue.org/programme/pre-event-discussion/, and on the day, the homepage will feature an opportunity to put questions live to the panellists. Further dialogue is encouraged via our active social media channels – details included below.
