Riccardo Chailly to conduct the 2010 Nobel Prize Concert

One of the world's leading conductors, Riccardo Chailly, will be conducting the Royal Philharmoinic for the Nobel Prize Concert in December 2010, with a programme comprising Verdi's Quattro Pezzi Sacri and Respighi's Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome. The first part of the programme will also feature the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and the Swedish Radio Choir.

Riccardo Chailly was born in Milan and studied at the music conservatoire there and in Perugia. He had his conducting debut at Milan's La Scala in 1978, since which time he has held such positions as Principal Conductor for the Radio Symphony Orchestras in Berlin and Amsterdam's Concertgebouworkester. In 2005, Chailly became Director of Music for the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, and has recently extended his appointment to 2015.

The Nobel Prize Concert is held to honour the year's Nobel Laureates, who attend with their respective parties. Also present are members of the Swedish Royal Family and guests of the Nobel Foundation.

Tickets are available to the public for SEK 790/1490, including a printed programme and a glass of champagne in the intermission.

This year's TV broadcast from the Nobel Concert is being produced for international distribution, and in Sweden will be shown on SVT. Previous years' Nobel Concerts can be accessed on www.medici.tv.

The Nobel Prize Concert is sponsored by DnB NOR and Statkraft.
