Press release -

The Future of Energy will be Explored at the 2013 Nobel Week Dialogue in Gothenburg

The Nobel Week Dialogue, an open, cross-disciplinary meeting bringing together a unique constellation of Nobel Laureates, world-leading scientists, policy makers and thought leaders, will focus on the topic, “Exploring the Future of Energy” on 9 December 2013. For the first time the meeting will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden.

As part of the official Nobel Week program, the meeting is a chance for scientists and non-scientists alike to engage in a dialogue about the many possible energy scenarios ahead of us. In thought-provoking plenary sessions, discussion panels and more informal interactions, the panellists and participants (both live and online), will address questions such as:

How will humankind choose to meet the challenge of satisfying the ever-growing demand for power, against a backdrop of ever-decreasing natural resources and concerns about the environmental impact of energy use?

What part can renewable energy resources play in our future?

Can science and society forge the necessary links to realise the promise of new technologies?

The Nobel Week Dialogue alternates annually between Stockholm and Gothenburg. Gothenburg provides an excellent venue to address to the Future of Energy, due in particular to the city’s and the Region of Västra Götaland’s energy projects and the large student communities. The meeting is open and free to attend and students and the general public are encouraged to participate.

“Västra Götaland is a leading region internationally, when it comes to investment in research and development.  Through Nobel Week Dialogue, students, researchers and decision makers have the opportunity, together with Nobel Laureates and world-leading experts, to discuss global issues which engage and involve society today and in the future”, says Birgitta Losman, chairman of the regional development committee in Region Västra Götaland.

Nobel Week Dialogue is an important step in the right direction for the Gothenburg as the city of knowledge. It is fantastic, exciting and inspiring that we are part of this. Research is the basis for a sustainable society and sustainable life, both globally and locally,” says Anneli Hulthén, Chairman of Gothenburg City Executive Board.

This free of charge meeting takes place on Monday, 9 December at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, Gothenburg.  Nobel Week Dialogue is held in partnership with Carl Bennet AB, City of Gothenburg, Ericsson and Region Västra Götaland and is organised by Nobel Media AB, the media company for the Nobel Prize.
