WildChords by Ovelin announced as a World Summit Award mobile winner

UN-based World Summit Awards (mobile) has announced Ovelin’s iPad title WildChords as one of the winners in its m-learning and education category.

WildChords combines the hooking features of computer gaming with music instruments learning, and makes the difficult, early stages of instrument learning more accessible, fun and entertaining for anyone. The game is played with a real guitar.

WildChords is a guitar learning game for the Apple iPad that is played with a real guitar. It utilizes leading world-class audio signal processing to enable cordless gameplay with a real instrument, using the iPad microphones to “listen” to the tones the user plays.

WildChords features a modern version of Pied Piper of the Hamelin as the setting – there has been a breakout at the Zoo, and the main character sets on the journey to gather the animals back. The different animals represent different guitar chords – this provides both visual and auditory queues, making it easier to learn them. Each song level in the game starts with a training screen, which lets the user identify and practice the chords (animals) to appear on the level. The actual gameplay adds the rhythm (timing) element to the practice. The player strums the previously learnt chords along with the background music, to the rhythm of the animals (wild chords) scattered around the level.

The game features both chord and picking (single-note) exercises, starting from the very beginner level up, but still being versatile for slightly more intermediate basic practice.
