SEKAB signs partner agreement with Jubilant Pharmaceuticals NV Belgium – New marketing, logistics agreement opens doors for European expansion

SEKAB BioFuels & Chemicals AB has signed a partner agreement with Jubilant Pharmaceuticals, European subsidiary of an India-based global pharma company Jubilant Life Sciences which provides Life Science Products and Services across the value chain, serving its customers globally with its ground presence in India, North America, Europe and China. According to the agreement, SEKAB will act as a sales agent for the marketing and sale of Jubilant Pharmaceuticals’ Acetic anhydride and Ethyl acetate on the European market. 

Jubilant Life Sciences operates plants in India for the manufacture of acetic anhydride and ethyl acetate and sees this deal as a way of expanding its presence on the European market into a new market area. SEKAB, which already has an established sales organisation and customer base in Europe, will provide Jubilant with promotional, sales and logistic support. The cooperation is according to Anders Fredriksson, CEO at SEKAB, in line with the company’s investment in green chemicals.

“SEKAB has extensive experience in manufacturing and handling biologically produced chemicals for the chemical industry, primarily with ethanol as a raw material,” said Anders Fredriksson, CEO of SEKAB. “This cooperation translates into an expanded product portfolio for SEKAB and at the same time it paves the way to a deeper cooperation in the long run.”

SEKAB has secured storage capacity in Europe and expects the first volumes of acetic anhydride and ethyl acetate to be delivered in October.

About ethyl acetate
Ethyl acetate is a solvent used in printing inks, varnishes and in the manufacture of enamels, plastics and rubber. Ethyl acetate is also used for manufacturing flavors for the food industry as well as extraction solvent in the production of pharmaceuticals. Among the organic solvents, ethyl acetate is considered to be one of the most environmental friendly. It is very effective, while easily broken down in both air and water.                                                                                                                                                                          

About acetic anhydride 
Acetic anhydride n is a widely used reagent in organic synthesis. Its largest application is in the production of cellulose acetate, which is used in the production of cigarette filters, plastic and textile fibers. Acetic anhydride is also an important raw material for various applications such as cold water detergents, modified starch, caffeine, crop protection chemicals, pharmaceuticals, for instance Acetaminophen (paracetamol) and acetylsalicylic acid ( aspirin), aromatics and various other chemical intermediates such Monochloroacetic acid.
