Thule hosts world premiere of big wave surfer Garrett McNamara’s documentary film ‘Nazaré Calling’

On July 11^th, Thule will host the world premiere of surfer Garrett McNamara’s documentary – Nazaré Calling – at the 20^th European Outdoor Fair in Friedrichshafen. The documentary focuses on the preparations and execution of Garrett McNamara’s world record breaking big wave surf at Nazaré in Portugal. But the film is also a love story to nature and the environment.

In 2011 Garrett McNamara, one of the best big wave surfers in the world, set out to find and surf the world biggest wave. On November 1^st 2011 he found what he was looking for, in the small Portuguese village of Nazaré. An almost eighty feet high wave (roughly 24 metres) – equivalent of an eight story building.

“I feel very blessed and I feel that we achieved everything we wanted to do with Portugal and Nazaré especially”, says Garrett McNamara. “With this documentary I want to share the amazing feeling of achieving your goals and being one with nature.”

Surfing the enormous wave meant that Garrett set a new Guinness World Record in big wave surfing. A record he broke earlier this year when he returned to Nazaré to surf an even bigger wave, one hundred feet high (roughly 30 metres). But the documentary also gives an in-depth look into the preparations and personal challenges that go into living an active life outdoors.

The world premiere of the documentary will be shown in Foyer East on July 11^th at 6.30 pm at the upcoming European Outdoor Fair in Friedrichshafen, Germany. Garrett McNamara will be present to introduce the film and will also be available for interviews.
