Adult Coloring Books with Police and Military Themes Provide Relief to PTSD Sufferers

If you suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), you may have heard how adult coloring books can bring you relief by reducing the intensity and frequency of the flashbacks and anxiety attacks that are triggered by PTSD.

Anyone can suffer from PTSD, which can happen after witnessing or going through a particularly stressful or traumatic event, however, it is extremely common for those with military or law enforcement experience.

“I thought that Military and Law Enforcement personnel would benefit from having their own coloring books that featured their iconography,” explained illustrator Cali Y. Bianca. “I created adult coloring books for military and police officers of all levels of command… With patches and badges as the images for them to color in.”

The Time2Color Pocket PTSD Therapeutic Coloring Books is a collection of pocket-sized coloring books that PTSD sufferers can carry with them at all times; each title in the series features the badges and shoulder patches from uniforms of different sectors of law enforcement and military including Department of Corrections, Sheriffs, Canadian law enforcement, US Military, and Fire Departments.

People who suffer from PTSD frequently have nightmares that can awaken both the sufferer and their partner. It’s recommended to keep a coloring book on your bedside table, and use the coloring book when you are woken up by a nightmare.

Coloring should soothe the brain enough for you should be able to get back to sleep.

Fearful memories and flashbacks can cripple the person suffering from PTSD, and while there is no exact “cure” or treatment to permanently banish the symptoms, coloring has shown to help a person cope with PTSD.

The part of the brain that produces a flashback, fearful memory, or nightmare is the same part that’s used when you color something in. When you begin to color in your coloring book during a PTSD attack, the brain begins to focus instead on coloring in the page, temporarily relieving you of your PTSD anxiety and memories.

The Time2Color Pocket PTSD Therapeutic Coloring Booksare available on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and most other online retailers. Use the hashtagTime2Color4PTSD on Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest to find uploaded artwork from our coloring books.

Adult coloring books are not considered to be art therapy that can be used as a substitute to professional help. Coloring books are therapeutic because they can calm and relax the sufferer of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
