Timex Lights Up Earth Hour 2015 with INDIGLO® Night-Light

MIDDLEBURY, CT, February 17, 2015 – Timex, with over 160 years as a global leader in watch-making, is gearing up for its most powerful hour yet. Timex is pledging to make a positive contribution to the planet during the 2015 Earth Hour, the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment organized by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). On March 28, 2015, from 8:30-9:30 p.m. local time, individuals, households, communities and businesses around the world will join the movement and turn off their lights to inspire action to change climate change.

Timex is showing its commitment to environmental awareness through an interactive microsite counting down the seconds until Earth Hour 2015. The site features the INDIGLO® night-light, a signature feature of Timex® watches, whose distinctive blue glow will help to “light up” the darkness during Earth Hour in an energy-efficient way.

From now through March 28, individuals are invited to visit timex.com/earthhour to make their own pledge by declaring how they will use their “Time to GLO” during Earth Hour to have a positive impact on the planet. Timex Group USA will donate $1 to the Earth Hour movement for every pledge shared on social media (up to a maximum of $50,000).

Employing the latest real-time, 3D engine technology, users can upload a profile image to the site that will be transformed into glowing pixie-dust particles, representing their part in the universal commitment to protecting the planet. Participants are encouraged to share their pledge and new “GLO-ing” photo on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #TimetoGLO to raise awareness and participation in Earth Hour.

“At Timex, we’re passionate about the environment and protecting our planet both as a company and as individuals,” said Alan Stone-Wigg, President of Timex Group USA. “Our U.S. Headquarters in Middlebury, CT, are currently home to one of the largest ground-mounted solar panel installations in the Northeast. We’re proud to continue our commitment to the environment during Earth Hour 2015 and are excited for the Timex community to join us and pledge their support!”

Leading up to Earth Hour, Timex is partnering with influential and environmentally passionate Instagram personalities to create visually exciting content for the Earth Hour movement through their own unique lenses. Contributors include: Brendan Fallis, DJ/ model (@brendanfallis); Sydney Kramer, Brooklyn foodie (@crepesofwrath); Jamal "Style Society Guy," style blogger (@stylesocietyguy); Marcus Troy, lifestyle/ fashion influencer (@marcustroy); Grace Atwood, lifestyle blogger (@graceatwood); Keiko Lynn, fashion/ beauty expert (@keikolynn); and Christina Caradona, fashion blogger/ model (@troprouge). Timex will create a special “Countdown to Earth Hour” video featuring select influencers in their daily lives as they prepare for Earth Hour. The video and all content created through the partnership will be available at timex.com/earthhour.

"Timex is committed to innovation, creativity and the environment and we welcome the #TimetoGLO initiative, which brings together all these elements in a new-age, interactive platform to inspire people to join the Earth Hour movement and take action for our planet,” said David Flack, Executive Director, Earth Hour. "Earth Hour stands testament to the power of the crowd and we thank Timex for the innovative platform created to mobilize even more people to act to help change climate change, Earth’s biggest environmental challenge today.”

Earth Hour was started as a symbolic lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and has grown to engage hundreds of millions of supporters in more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide.
