What’s the fuss about Cloud Storage?

Lets have a closer look at the reasons why one should store his/her files in the cloud, what additional safety the cloud can provide if chosen wisely and what protection the cloud offers to every individual and enterprise.

There are two aspects which differ for home users and enterprises. Take a minute and have a quick look at your files. What are your most valuable files? There are pictures of your beloved ones, Videos of your Wedding, pictures of your child growing up, the Documents you keep for historical purposes, which might include your CV, copies of documents and many more.

One of the use cases the cloud can provide is backup. As your files continue to be stored on your hard drive, they are stored also in a secure cloud environment. So in the case you loose access to your hard drive, and the reasons for loosing access to storage mediums may vary, find a list below of what might happen:

  1. A Virus strikes your computer, you need to format your Hard drive. All your data is gone.
  2. Malware or Ransomware strike you. Either Pay sums of up to 5000 USD to regain access to your PC, or simply format your hard drive.
  3. Your Hard drive is simply a couple of years old and as everything mechanical – it simply fails.
  4. You delete an important folder by error, the folder is to large to be fit in the recycle bin. Your files are gone - forever.

We could continue this list, but we want you to ask yourself a simple question: While it takes only a couple of hours to re-install Windows or other Operating Systems, how long will it take to recover your most valuable files? Will you ever be able to re-take all the pictures you’ve taken over years and years? The videos? Will you be able to re-assemble your music collection the way it was before?

As we have been in the situation where we were stroke by a drive failure and know what it takes to recover, there were still several years of lost digital photography and personal pictures we lost.
We then took a simple thought: We do pay for home insurance, life insurance, health insurance and car insurance. What do we do for our data?

Obviously there is more to your data and it can be protected by leveraging cloud storage. But is there more to cloud storage than just disaster recovery? There is a simple answer to this question as well. Yes, there is more to cloud storage than just backing up valuable data. The next most interesting thing is called Drive Sync.

Drive Sync explained

You store a file on your home PC. You are at work and need access to this file you’ve been working on for the whole weekend. XXL Box Drive Sync gives you access to this file. You update the file at work, and magically the file on your home computer is updated to the latest version. Isn’t it a big time safer not to plug in your Memory Stick or external hard drive, copy the file on it, go home, copy the file to your harddrive and then everything vice versa Monady morning when going back to work?

We’ll leave you to answer this question to yourself!

Sharing files with family and friends.

You went for a trip to the mountains with your family. Of course you’ll take some snapshots with your phone. Immediately the picture is synced to your Cloud Storage account. Oh yes, grandma has asked for a picture. Well. Not a problem, just share the picture with her. No need to send emails with large attachments. You just send an email with a link to the picture, and within seconds, Grandma can open the pictures on her phone or computer.

The number of Benefits cloud storage can offer is nearly endless, and in no way this article comprises a full feature list, but rather the reasons that should make you think about the ultimate insurance of safeguarding your files.
