Jun 25, 2015 08:20 EDT SEKAB Bio- and forest industry company UPM is starting a major project aimed at demonstrating processes for the production of green chemical products using forest raw materials. SEKAB, the Swedish chemicals company, is participating contributing its technology to convert forest product residues into sugars and lignin. The EU is investing EUR 13 million in the project.

The project is cooperation between SEKAB, Sveaskog, Holmen, Södra, Borealis, Trioplast, Tetra Pak and SP Processum. SP Processum is the main project sponsor for this partnership.

Good news for green chemistry in new EU industrial policy

Since the high import duty on bio-ethanol is one of the biggest barriers to growth of bio-based chemistry in Europe, SEKAB welcomes this and looks forward to hearing what measures will be taken to improve the situation.
