Tobii Releases Powerful New Analytics SDK with Free MATLAB® Bindings

STOCKHOLM & WASHINGTON, June 4, 2013 —Tobii Technology, the global leader in eye tracking and gaze interaction, today announced the release of Tobii Analytics Software Development Kit (SDK) 3.0, providing developers with a comprehensive toolbox for building eye-tracking software to support analysis applications on multiple platforms using a wide range of programming languages. Available through free download, Tobii Analytics SDK 3.0 ships with MATLAB® bindings for Windows and Mac OS X and supports the entire range of Tobii analytics products, including the new line of Tobii X2 Eye Trackers powered by the latest generation of Tobii’s award-winning eye-tracking technology.

Tobii Analytics SDK 3.0 greatly expands opportunities for developers to create different kinds of eye tracking applications—from custom research paradigms for scientific research to commercial applications.

"The new MATLAB® binding in the Tobii Analytics SDK allows us to confidently implement a wide range of experimental paradigms and control the eye tracker directly from MATLAB® and Psychophysics Toolbox scripts. We are currently using the binding in the BabyLab in the Cognitive Neuropsychology and Neuroscience Laboratory to work with infants, young children and adults," said Dr. Mihaela Duta, Technical Officer, University of Oxford.

Highlights of the Tobii Analytics SDK 3.0 include:

  • Support for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X
  • Free MATLAB® bindings for Windows and Mac OS X
  • Support for Python 2.7
  • Richer gaze data content, including 3D coordinates for easier integration into 3D environments, development of gaze angle-based filters and more
  • Full access to and control over high-resolution clock synchronization between the computer running the SDK and eye tracker, enabling highly integrated setups and insight into the synchronization
  • Real-time access to the head movement box to display accurate tracking status meters and correctly guide users to a good position

Tobii also offers a MATLAB® consulting service for those researchers who need help reviewing and developing MATLAB scripts or porting already existing code in their development projects.

Tobii Analytics SDK 3.0 will serve as an extraordinary development stimulus to the Tobii Analytics Partner Program, which also includes access to eye-tracking hardware, training, documentation and support. These resources allow members of the program to create analytical applications that interact with Tobii eye-tracking technology to track human eye movements, store gaze data and draw behavioral conclusions. Publishing to the Tobii Application Market facilitates sharing of software applications and ideas among scientists, researchers, students and other interested parties.

“We want to engage more users and developers in the creation of innovative eye-tracking applications to help a broader spectrum of researchers recognize the immense value eye tracking offers a variety of academia and business-related industries,” said Tom Englund, president of analysis solutions at Tobii. “We are constantly impressed by the caliber of our customers’ work and how they are continuously expanding the applications for eye tracking. Now, with the new Analytics SDK and the partner program, we hope to see even more advancements achieved.”
