As part of Earth Day 2011, Sebastian Copeland's award-winning documentary (and Tribeca Film Festival favorite) INTO THE COLD: A JOURNEY OF THE SOUL was released on DVD, allowing audiences worldwide to share his journey to the North Pole; One of the toughest expeditions on Earth and one that will one day soon no longer be achievable due to climate change. This is truly an amazing film with a powerful message, and the first HD documentary showcasing such footage of the North Pole.

The film follows adventurers Sebastian Copeland and Keith Heger through intensive physical training before embarking on a harrowing journey to the North Pole, the first HD documentary showcasing such footage.  From personal reflections to last minute preparations, the story shifts when the two men are dropped onto the ice and faced with temperatures in excess of -50F degrees.  The film is a love letter to the North Pole, showcasing its awe inspiring beauty and an expedition that will one day soon no longer be achievable.

“Reaching the North Pole was a childhood dream, one that will sadly not be afforded to children today,” said Copeland, who is both behind and in front of the camera in the film.  “Images from The North Pole expeditions are very rare: it is a privilege to bring this exceptional beauty into people’s homes.”

The film features music by Mia Maestro, Meiko, Great Northern, Besnard Lakes, and Didier Lockwood.  A portion of the profits will be donated to Global Green USA and The SEDNA Foundation.  The DVD was made with 100% reusable materials and printed with Soy-Based Ink.  The DVD also features Antarctica: The Global Warning - A Book Presentation.

INTO THE COLD: A JOURNEY OF THE SOUL  is available on DVD for $24.95 on www.intothecold.org

Synopsis:

Environmental advocate, photographer, and adventurer, Sebastian Copeland ventures more than 400 miles on foot through sub-zero temperatures on the frozen ice cap of the Arctic with only courage and determination to see him and comrade Keith Heger through a harrowing two-month journey to the North Pole. In the history of exploration, few have ever successfully made this voyage - one of the toughest feats known to man.   A moving story of endurance and commitment, Into The Cold: A Journey of the Soul delves into the depth of the human soul against the backdrop of the magnificent Great North. Rarely has this part of the world been portrayed in such vivid and personal detail. Using the centennial of Admiral Peary’s 1909 reach as a touchstone, Into The Cold captures this rapidly vanishing environment while simultaneously transporting us into the mind of an individual facing insurmountable odds, celebrating Man’s communion with Nature, and underlying the poignant message: if the Great North goes, so does humanity.
