Lagos, 20 March, 2012 – Travelstart, Africa's leading online travel agency, recently announced the beta launch of its Nigerian website www.travelstart.com.ng. Already popular in South and East Africa, the Travelstart website offers Nigerian travellers a great set of tools to help them search and buy the travel options that best meets their budget and requirements.

"We’ve launched Travelstart in beta as we want to start testing market acceptance in Nigeria. Nigerians are known to be early adopters when it comes to technology and online activities and we’ve already seen how well Internet users have taken to the stripped down, beta version of our website. The plan is to incrementally roll out additional functionality based on market demands to ensure we have the best possible product for the Nigerian online travel audience when we launch the full website later this year.” said Stephan Ekbergh, CEO of Travelstart.

“Nigerians have embraced Travelstart rapidly with traffic to the site increasing by more than 200% in the last month. And within three weeks of launching, our Nigerian website is already ranking second in terms of sales value out of all of our new markets, so we are thrilled to say the least!” says Maija de Rijk-Uys, Head of New Markets at Travelstart.

Travelstart reports over 100% weekly growth in Nigeria thus far, and over 90% of flight bookings made on the website are regional and international bookings. In terms of domestic flight bookings, Air Nigeria and Arik Air have been the most popular airlines booked.
“Travelstart has partnered with one of Nigeria’s top travel experts, GHI Assets Limited, who has been in operations for over 30 years. Coupled with Travelstart’s long and successful online history, we foresee this as a fruitful partnership.” says Maija.
