As the first newspaper in the world, Jyllands-Posten launched earlier this year a Smart TV app, and now this app is in the final as one of the most innovative content services for connected devices of 2012.

It is IBC, the International Broadcast Convention, who is behind the prestigious competition and the winners are being announced at this very convention in Amsterdam in September.

App. 100 apps were nominated, and JP’s app, that is available on all Samsung Smart TV-models and Blu-ray players, is among the five finalists.

“We are proud of the fact that the industry has given our news app such great reception. The Smart TV platform is a part of Jyllands-Posten’s strategy about availability and being able to offer our readers access to our content on all relevant platforms,” says Internet Editor Jørgen Schultz-Nielsen from Jyllands-Posten.

It is the Danish company Xstream AS who has developed and designed the TV app, which features a written editorial part with news articles, stock market info, business and sports as well as the entire newspaper's video section.

“It is a huge recognition to be in the final of Europe’s biggest award. Our goal is to play a central role in the development of the Nordic media market, where we can see that more and more media houses and newspapers want to be available on new platforms, so their readers can access the content from anywhere they want,” says Frank Thorup, CEO at Xstream AS.

According to Frank Thorup, the Smart TV platform is getting increasingly more popular with the advertisers, and the TV app business is expecting to generate a turnover on more than 1,3 billion euros before the end of 2013.
