The gloves are coming off. Netflix has taken the majority shareholder of online video viewers in the Nordics and they’re rapidly growing their foothold in Europe. But now, after a few years of taking it on the chin from OTT providers like Netflix, providers in the Nordic region and Europe say they’re ready to deliver the right combination of content, user experience and engagement to unleash a vicious counterpunch. Providers are realizing the obvious fact that they need to adapt to survive. Adapt with technology, content and user experience to win and retain their costumers.
The battle is on – the winner(s) is yet to be found, but one thing is for sure- it is not going to take six years like it did for Netflix to kill Blockbuster. We’ll dig further into this battle at the upcoming Nordic Media Summit.
At Nordic Media Summit, taking place in Copenhagen September 25th, we have brought together some of the best minds, thinkers and innovators, all at the very top of their game. Nordic OTT & TV Everywhere focus
The first half of the day is dedicated to the Nordic region, where we’ll hear from Watson, a finish OTT service a joint venture of a telco and a video rental store, C More will share their thoughts and future strategy, Magine will demonstrate their TV Everywhere solution and Telia will discuss how OTT and Customer value, addressing the question; Can OTT services make your offerings more relevant for the customers? Furthermore we have international research firm Parks Associate who will share their findings on OTT customers- moving from sideline to primetime.
Companion device, Second screen strategies and Social TV
Second part of the day is focused on international OTT services and their success, with Rogers Media, from Canada, sharing their experience with TV Everywhere services and how they have joint forces with a competitor, Shaw media, to take on the battle with Netflix in Canada. Spark New Zealand will present their newly launched OTT SVOD service, Lightbox- featuring lots of Netflix series such as House of Cards, Orange is the new Black and Breaking Bad.
Furthermore, the second half is dedicated to strategies for succeeding with and monetize from companion devices/ second screen solutions, Social TV and recommendations. Here we have speakers from Jack Morton Worldwide, leading global brand experience company talking about planning for (and against) second screen solutions in a multiscreen world. Followed by Grabyo who’ll talk about next generation Social TV and how you can generate higher consumer interaction, and finally- Twitter who’ll share their future focus on online video and showcase how you can leverage Twitter to increase monetization and user.
