About HTTP Dynamic Streaming
HTTP Dynamic streaming is Adobe’s name for adaptive bitrate technology, a technology that works for on-demand and live video streaming online. Dynamic streaming enables quickly switching bitrate without the user even noticing. Usually switches can occur in as little as two seconds which works wonders for unstable wireless and 3G connections. This delivery method enables on-demand and live adaptive bitrate video streaming of standards-based MP4 media over regular HTTP connections.

Adaptive streaming means that the player automatically chooses the highest bitrate stream for the connection, switching to lower or higher bitrate streams as needed. Adaptive Bitrate streaming can therefore easily detect an end-user’s bandwidth and CPU viewing capabilities by monitoring in real-time the quality of the stream, then adjusting it accordingly throughout the viewing experience. Therefore many content producers are turning to adaptive bitrate streaming, because it can easily detect an end-user’s bandwidth and CPU viewing capabilities by monitoring in real-time the quality of the stream, then adjusting it accordingly throughout the viewing experience.

Both Microsoft and Adobe are offering Adaptive Bitrate streaming, Microsoft calls it Smooth Streaming, while Adobe has two, Http dynamic streaming or Adaptive streaming.
