Crime+Investigation Channel Highlights July 2021

KILLER BRITAIN WITH DERMOT MURNAGHAN

Mondays from 12 July at 22:00

Hosted and curated by one of the UK’s best-known journalists, Killer Britain with Dermot Murnaghan explores British murder stories filled with detective intrigue and chilling storylines.

For this series, Dermot Murnaghan will be joined by former Detective Chief Inspector of the Metropolitan Police, Clive Driscoll, best known for securing the convictions for the murder of South London teenager Stephen Lawrence.

In each episode, Dermot recounts a case he has reported on or followed at close quarters. The five murder stories are told with archive footage and key interviews from those closest to the case, including family members of the victims and the investigating officers who were first at the scene.

In this series, Dermot will guide viewers through crimes which shook local communities throughout Britain to their core: the gangland slaying of Salford’s ‘Mr Big’, Paul Massey in July 2015; the devastating Cumbria shootings of June 2010; the callous murder of vulnerable young adult Phillip Nicholson, in Boscombe, Dorset, in 2015, recorded on a mobile phone; the dramatic twists and turns of the murders of Carol Jarvis, in West Lothian in 2009 and Jessica Patel in Middlesbrough in May 2018.

COURT CAM: UNDER OATH

Fridays from 9 July at 21:00

Each episode of Court Cam: Under Oath is a twisty-turny true crime story told through the unique lens of the accused -- in their own words from the witness stand.

Viewers are put to the test sorting fact from fiction as they sit directly in the jury box and hear from the accused. The accused are often expert manipulators who believe they can simply talk their way out of any scenario. They think they can completely convince a jury of their innocence.

Throughout the episode, we play up the mystery of what happened and juxtapose it with what the defendant claims happened. Often times, the jury watches the lies unravel in front of them (or maybe are convinced of the truth). We show the testimony, the contentious cross examination and then the ultimate verdict.

HOMICIDE HUNTER

Thursdays from 1July at 22:00

Homicide Hunter features the beloved retired detective Lieutenant Joe Kenda. Kenda spent 23 years in the Colorado Springs Police Department, where he amassed a lifetime of memories catching killers and helping solve close to 400 homicide investigations.

Homicide Hunter reveals the emotional and psychological effects of murder on the investigator himself as Kenda embarks on a personal journey, coming to terms with long-suppressed nightmares.

THE FIRST 48

Continues Thursdays at 21:00

The First 48 takes viewers behind the scenes of real-life investigations as it follows homicide detectives in the critical first 48 hours of murder investigations. Detectives in major cities in the United States race against the clock in the wake of homicides, knowing that if they don't find a lead within the first 48 hours, their chances of solving a case are cut in half.

The programme shows how detectives use forensic evidence and witness interviews to help identify suspects.
