WiFi 8 is designed to deliver low latency, ultrahigh reliability, and seamless intelligent device coordination — the foundation for AI-driven device ecosystems
ASUS established market leadership for WiFi 6 and WiFi 7, with its first WiFi 8 home routers arriving in 2026
Ratingen, Germany, January 6, 2026 — ASUS today announced the ROG NeoCore, a WiFi 8 concept router, along with the world’s first real-world WiFi 8 throughput test. Marking the beginning of the era of next-generation WiFi 8 technology, this real-world test showcases the improvements that WiFi 8 can bring. ASUS Networking plans to release its first lineup of WiFi 8 home routers and mesh systems in 2026. Powered by proprietary ASUS AiMesh technology and the ASUS AI Network Engine, the new generation will embody the concept of a Smarter Spectrum, Better Experience vision as it ushers in a new wireless era for the AI age.
Ultra-high reliability for everyday connectivity
WiFi 8 is more than a speed upgrade — it fundamentally transforms connection stability and responsiveness. WiFi 8 routers are positioned to solve four core connectivity challenges. For example, WiFi 8 makes speed degradation much slower and connections more stable, helping to ensure smooth performance whether a router is placed in the living room, on a rooftop, or even in a backyard. WiFi 8 also strengthens two-way communication for low-power devices such as smart lights and controllers, ensuring steady connections for all connected devices.
In modern apartment buildings and other densely populated neighborhoods, signals from nearby routers can interfere with each other. WiFi 8 routers maintain stable performance in this scenario through the use of intelligent spectrum coordination.
WiFi 8 routers are also designed to address the problem of network congestion. By enhancing spectrum efficiency and dynamic scheduling, these new models will ensure that every megahertz of bandwidth is used effectively, improving both latency and overall throughput.
“WiFi 8 is not just about chasing peak speed — it’s about making every connection smarter and more reliable,” said Tenlong Deng, Corporate VP & General Manager of Wireless and Networking for ASUS. “It enables seamless collaboration between smart homes, AI assistants, and cloud services, delivering stable performance anytime, anywhere.”
Powering the AI era
ASUS WiFi 8 routers are positioned to bring WiFi 8’s full potential into a variety of scenarios. Whether for cloud streaming, real-time voice communication or multi-device team play, this new architecture and its intelligent scheduling are poised to deliver near-zero-latency responsiveness and unparalleled reliability. ASUS conducted real-world tests to evaluate the performance gap between WiFi 7 and WiFi 8. Although theoretical data speeds remain unchanged, our results showed that WiFi 8 can significantly boost throughput. Compared to WiFi 7, WiFi 8 delivers up to 2X higher mid-range throughput, 2X wider IoT coverage, and up to 6X lower P99 latency via smarter multi-AP/multi-client operation[i].
[i] Full use of WiFi 8 features requires both the router and client to support WiFi 8. As the standard is not expected to be finalized until September 2028, this product is based on the draft specification. These figures are based on preliminary industry test data; actual performance varies by device and environment. Some features are optional or implementation-dependent.
A legacy of leadership — setting world firsts
ASUS has consistently been among the first to achieve FCC certification for launching new WiFi technologies, including WiFi 6, WiFi 6E, and WiFi 7 products. With the debut of the ROG NeoCore and the first real-world throughput test, ASUS once again sets a milestone in WiFi 8, demonstrating its leadership in the next generation of WiFi innovation.
