CLIMATE & ENERGY: Experts at Falling Walls Science Summit 2025 Address Scaling and Governance

Dear media representative,

across Europe and beyond, the climate challenge is no longer a lack of ideas or technologies. Proven solutions exist, from energy systems and biomanufacturing to nature-based approaches and fusion. The real bottleneck is scaling them fast enough through coherent policy, markets and institution.

At the Falling Walls Science Summit 2025, 6–9 November, numerous panels explored the state of energy and climate solutions across sectors and scientific disciplines, resulting in a number identified issues. Attached to this message are communiqués from these sessions, summarising the key results from the debates.

“AFRICA’S ENERGY SHIFT: JUST AND GLOBAL COLLABORATION” (supported by Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin)
— A fair energy future demands African leadership, not new dependencies.

"BIOMANUFACTURING: SCALING THE SUSTAINABLE BIOECONOMY" (supported by Trade + Investment Queensland)
Turning bio-based breakthroughs into bankable, climate-scale industries.

“ENERGY TRANSITION IN EUROPE: SQUARING THE CIRCLE” (supported by Jülich Research Centre)
— Europe’s future depends on one coherent energy market.

“FRONTIERS PLANET PRIZE: CAN SCIENCE SAVE THE PLANET?” (supported by Frontiers Planet Prize)
— Turning micro climate fixes into macro impact.

“FUSION MADE IN GERMANY: DREAM OR FUTURE REALITY?” (supported by Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space)
— Germany races to turn fusion from promise to power.

“SCALING UP NATURE BASED SOLUTIONS: PITFALLS AND POTENTIALS?” (supported by Federal Ministry of Research Technology and Space)
— From peatlands to timber towers: turning nature-based solutions into core climate infrastructure.
