Meet The Chinese Scientist Making Global Communication Unhackable | Falling Walls Science Summit, 6–9 Nov 2025, Berlin

Jian-Wei Pan: His technology uses light to make long distance information transmission unhackeable.

It started with a vision: what if secure communication could truly be made immune to hackers? Jian-Wei Pan, one of the world’s leading quantum physicists, has come closer to this goal than anyone else.

His team has developed the first quantum microsatellite for real-time quantum key distribution (QKD) using mobile ground stations. By transmitting information with photons that immediately change when intercepted, Pan’s breakthrough points to a future of ultra-secure, global communication networks.

On 9 November in Berlin, he will be honoured as a Science Breakthrough of the Year and present his work to an international audience at the Falling Walls Science Summit — one of the leading global gatherings on science and society.

Press accreditation to the Science Summit is free of charge. Please use the code SCSU25_Press on our website to receive your press ticket: https://falling-walls.com/scie...
