The Italian Artist Hoping To Restore Coral Reefs Worldwide| Falling Walls Science Summit, 6–9 Nov 2025, Berlin

Marco Barotti: His sculptures offer new hope for the restoration of coral reefs worldwide.

What if art could help heal our oceans? With Coral Sonic Resilience, Berlin-based artist Marco Barotti has created 3D-printed, solar-powered sculptures that emit the sounds of thriving coral reefs into degraded ecosystems. The result: fish and larvae are drawn back, giving damaged reefs a chance to regenerate.

Made from calcium carbonate — the very substance corals are built of — and inspired by the textures of brain corals, the sculptures are now installed in reef nurseries in the Maldives. Barotti’s work shifts art from interpretation to action, making it an active tool for environmental protection. Read more.

On 9 November in Berlin, he will be honoured as a Science Breakthrough of the Year and present his work to an international audience at the Falling Walls Science Summit — one of the leading global gatherings on science and society.

Press accreditation to the Science Summit is free of charge. Please use the code SCSU25_Press on our website to receive your press ticket: https://falling-walls.com/scie...
