Press release —
JOYNEXT and NEXTCHIP jointly develop the next generation of intelligent driver assistance systems
Strategic partnership combines high-performance AI semiconductors with scalable vehicle platforms for global OEM programs
Driver assistance systems are becoming a defining technology for the next generation of vehicles. At the same time, increasingly stringent NCAP safety requirements in Europe and North America are driving demand for greater computing power, advanced image processing, and seamless software integration. To deliver high-performance, cost-effective Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), JOYNEXT and the South Korean semiconductor company NEXTCHIP have entered a strategic partnership. The collaboration aims to develop integrated ADAS solutions for global vehicle programs as well as next-generation Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) architectures. By combining their complementary expertise across the automotive value chain, the two companies intend to create new business opportunities with global automakers and Tier 1 suppliers.
AI Computing Power Meets System Integration
The collaboration focuses on integrating NEXTCHIP's new automotive platform, APACHE6, into JOYNEXT's vehicle platforms. The system-on-chip (SoC) was specifically designed for next-generation driver assistance systems and combines a high-performance image signal processor (ISP) with a neural processing unit (NPU) optimized for in-vehicle AI applications. This enables real-time image processing and the execution of sophisticated algorithms for object detection, lane keeping, and environmental awareness directly within the vehicle. JOYNEXT integrates this technology into its vehicle platforms, complementing it with software, connectivity, and end-to-end system integration. The result is a scalable solution that can be adapted to a wide range of vehicle architectures and the requirements of global automotive manufacturers.
From Joint Development to Series Production
The partnership includes technical integration of the APACHE6 platform, joint development of ADAS and vision-based solutions, and comprehensive compatibility and system testing. The companies also plan to carry out proof-of-concept projects, develop demonstration vehicles, and conduct joint customer validation activities. At the same time, JOYNEXT and NEXTCHIP are working on concrete concepts to support future vehicle programs for global OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. Planned activities include joint technical workshops, Tech Days, customer demonstrations, and the development of joint solutions for engineering programs and customer tenders in Europe and North America.
Focus on Software-Defined Vehicles
Beyond conventional driver assistance systems, the partnership is focused on next-generation SDV architectures. Together, the companies aim to develop intelligent camera systems, centralized computing platforms, and highly integrated vision solutions that address growing requirements for computing performance, over-the-air software updates, and functional safety. "The partnership combines NEXTCHIP's high-performance semiconductor technology with our expertise in developing and integrating intelligent vehicle systems. The APACHE6 SoC enables powerful, cost-effective ADAS solutions that meet the requirements of global automotive manufacturers. At the same time, the collaboration strengthens our relationships with Asian OEMs and creates new opportunities to jointly develop competitive solutions for Europe and other international markets," said Stefan Hanika-Heidl, Chief Technology Officer of JOYNEXT GmbH.
Driving International Growth
Through this strategic collaboration, JOYNEXT is further expanding its international technology network. The objective is to accelerate the integration of innovative semiconductor technologies into production-ready vehicle platforms and support automakers in developing the next generation of intelligent, software-defined vehicles. The partnership also underscores JOYNEXT's commitment to shaping the future of the automotive industry as a global development partner for automotive electronics, connectivity, and intelligent driver assistance systems.
