SUNOTEC partners with Sopowerful to bring solar energy to communities in need

[Munich, November 2025] - SUNOTEC and Sopowerful are turning sunlight into opportunity, partnering to deliver clean energy and lasting change to communities across Africa.

SUNOTEC is honoured to announce a new partnership with Sopowerful, reinforcing a shared commitment to making clean energy accessible where it is needed most. Through this collaboration, the SUNOTEC Foundation, our dedicated platform for community investment and philanthropic initiatives, will provide financial support to help Sopowerful expand its impactful work across Africa and beyond.

The Sopowerful Foundation works to empower communities through access to clean, reliable solar energy. By installing solar power systems for schools, hospitals, and essential institutions in underserved regions, Sopowerful transforms lives and unlocks opportunities for education, healthcare, irrigation and economic development. Its mission is rooted in addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges: today, one in three people lack access to safe water, 430 million have no access to electrified healthcare, and 32% of primary school children attend schools without electricity.

In October 2025, SUNOTEC had the pleasure of hosting its founder, Stefano Cruccu and other partners at our headquarters in Munich to reflect on past achievements and plan for the future. The event showcased the tremendous potential of partnerships that unite technological excellence with social purpose.

Hearing directly from communities impacted by Sopowerful’s work brought powerful emotion to the discussions, demonstrating how solar power can transform entire areas. “The solar power system has transformed our school. Teachers stay longer, and digital learning is now possible. Electricity has given us hope and new opportunities,” said Mr Mkwapatira, Head Teacher of Nkuyu Primary School in Malawi.

Since its founding, Sopowerful has achieved remarkable impact. In less than six years, the foundation has implemented 43 high-impact projects across Malawi and Tanzania, installing 523 kWp of solar capacity, 1,023 kWh of battery storage, and 13 solar-powered water pumps. These projects have already improved the lives of more than 350,000 people, delivered over 1.7 GWh of clean electricity, and led to an average 28% increase in school exam pass rates.
