Finn Juhl - Interior 52

At the upcoming international auction at Bruun Rasmussen in Copenhagen we have the pleasure of presenting a number of the models that Finn Juhl used in 1951 for Interior 52 at Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim (Norway’s National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design).

In February 1951 Finn Juhl was given the honourable task of designing a Danish interior at Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim (Norway’s National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design). The director of the museum, Thorvald Krohn- Hansen, wanted a room that could show the leading position that Danish decorative design had achieved in the world at the time. Finn Juhl took the task at hand very seriously and created an interior that was fully capable of representing a contemporary counterpoint to the unique room decorated by the Belgian Art Nouveau designer Henry van de Velde, which the museum already had.

Finn Juhl created an interior where the light, colours and surfaces interacted with the furniture pieces, of which he was a true champion. He decorated the room with a number of his own models, as well as the work from a few other designers, including – almost self-evidently – a museum table by Peder Moos. Interior 52 still exists as a part of the museum's permanent exhibitions – visit www.nkim.no/en/interior-52 if you want to take a closer look at the room. It is one of the best testimonies to Finn Juhl and Danish Modern in general.

At this auction we have the pleasure of being able to present a number of the models that Finn Juhl used for Interior 52. These models, combined with a few other similar pieces by Finn Juhl and models from a couple of other designers, have given us the opportunity to present an interior at our preview that seeks to recapture the mood of 1952.

Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers is one of Scandinavia’s leading international auction houses, and one of Denmark’s oldest. It all started on 6 October 1948, when Arne Bruun Rasmussen conducted the first traditional auction in the saleroom at Bredgade 33 in Copenhagen. Today, Jesper Bruun Rasmussen stands at the helm of the family-run business together with the company’s CEO Jakob Dupont.

In 2004, the first online auction was launched, and today the auction house has expanded to include departments in Copenhagen and Aarhus and representations in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Thailand and the US. About 100,000 lots are auctioned off each year at the eight traditional auctions and the daily online auctions. Here you can bid on everything from art, antiques, modern design and jewellery to books, coins, stamps, wine and weapons.

    Eftersynet åbner i dag!

Sensommerens internationale auktion hos Bruun Rasmussen i Bredgade åbner i dag! Blandt højdepunkterne er et nyopdaget værk af Paolo Scheggi, et sjældent museumsbord af Peder Moos og noget så enestående som et signeret brev af Martin Luther fra 1534.
