Finn Juhl - Interior 52
At the upcoming international auction at Bruun Rasmussen in Copenhagen we have the pleasure of presenting a number of the models that Finn Juhl used in 1951 for Interior 52 at Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim (Norway’s National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design).
In February 1951 Finn Juhl was given the honourable task of designing a Danish interior at Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum in Trondheim (Norway’s National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design). The director of the museum, Thorvald Krohn- Hansen, wanted a room that could show the leading position that Danish decorative design had achieved in the world at the time. Finn Juhl took the task at hand very seriously and created an interior that was fully capable of representing a contemporary counterpoint to the unique room decorated by the Belgian Art Nouveau designer Henry van de Velde, which the museum already had.
Finn Juhl created an interior where the light, colours and surfaces interacted with the furniture pieces, of which he was a true champion. He decorated the room with a number of his own models, as well as the work from a few other designers, including – almost self-evidently – a museum table by Peder Moos. It is one of the best testimonies to Finn Juhl and Danish Modern in general.
At this auction we have the pleasure of being able to present a number of the models that Finn Juhl used for Interior 52. These models, combined with a few other similar pieces by Finn Juhl and models from a couple of other designers, have given us the opportunity to present an interior at our preview that seeks to recapture the mood of 1952.
