After Misano Trophy: Mathias Villadsen Ready for New GT3 Challenge at Vallelunga

The Danish BMW driver heads into round three of the Italian GT3 Championship with confidence and motivation high following his podium result at Misano World Circuit.

Following a sensational runner-up finish in the opening Endurance round of the season at Misano World Circuit, Mathias Villadsen and the rest of Team Spirit Racing return to Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo this weekend as the Italian GT3 Championship continues with round three of the season – and round two of the Sprint Championship – at Vallelunga, north of Rome.

The Danish BMW driver once again lines up in the team’s BMW M4 GT3 with confidence and motivation running high after the impressive podium finish at Misano two weeks ago, where he and Jan Magnussen secured a trophy for Team Spirit Racing in the fiercely competitive championship. This weekend, however, the focus shifts back to the Sprint format, where Villadsen will once again compete solo.

For the 29-year-old Dane, the weekend represents another important opportunity to continue building on the strong momentum and positive development already shown during his debut season in the Italian GT3 series.

“I’m expecting a tough weekend, but also a weekend where I’ll have the opportunity to really dig deep and see what kind of results my development so far can produce. It’s going to be challenging, yes, but at the same time another weekend with very good learning opportunities,” says Mathias Villadsen.

“That said, I also expect to be able to fight further up the field than we did in the season opener at Imola back in April. I feel more and more comfortable with the car, and having both a sprint race and an endurance race under my belt has also helped me better understand the championship itself. Vallelunga is a demanding circuit, especially in sector three, which requires a perfect setup for the car to perform optimally, so there’s plenty of work ahead of us. I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

Round three of Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo gets underway at Vallelunga on Saturday, May 23, with the opening sprint race scheduled to start at 16:40 local time. Race two will take place on Sunday, May 24, at 14:00 local time. Both races can be streamed live on YouTube.
