Bastian Buus Back on the Podium in a Challenging GTWC Weekend

Despite fierce competition, Bastian Buus managed to secure another GT World Challenge podium in this weekend’s Sprint Cup round at Misano, Italy.

It was another busy weekend for Bastian Buus, who took part in round two of the Sprint Cup championship for Bronze Cup teams in GT World Challenge Europe. Following a strong season opener and class win at Zandvoort in May, the Danish Porsche factory driver once again helped the Lionspeed GP team to a podium finish – this time at Misano World Circuit.

Together with teammate Bashar Mardini, Buus finished fifth and as the fastest Porsche entry in the Bronze Cup class in Saturday evening’s race, before the duo made a strong comeback on Sunday by climbing onto the podium with a solid third-place finish.

“The Porsches struggled a bit for pace this weekend, but we still managed to come away with some good results,” said Bastian Buus.

It could potentially have gone even better in Sunday’s race, where Bashar Mardini started from fifth after a strong qualifying performance. However, an early spin saw him drop to the back of the 43-car field shortly after the start.

“That was really unfortunate, and from there it was a tough battle to fight our way back. But thanks to a red flag and a number of penalties for other teams, we managed to get back in contention and finish third,” Buus explained.

“Weekends like these – where we don’t have the outright pace to win or fight at the very front – are all about scoring as many points as possible, and I think we succeeded in doing that.”

Bastian Buus and Bashar Mardini won’t have to wait long for another shot at the GT World Challenge Europe, as round three of the Sprint Cup championship is set to take place next weekend, August 2–3, at Magny-Cours in France.
