Conrad Laursen Maintains Championship Lead After Challenging Monza Race

It was a tough GT World Challenge weekend for Conrad Laursen and the rest of the Kessel Racing squad, who lacked the pace to repeat their class victory from the season opener – but managed to retain the championship lead.

Conrad Laursen and his Kessel Racing teammates, Dustin Blattner and Dennis Marschall, had a difficult outing at Monza on Sunday, finishing 11th in the Bronze Cup class in the three-hour race. The Ferrari trio were unable to come close to matching their winning result from the season opener at Paul Ricard. Still, they managed to hold on to their lead in the championship standings.

"To put it simply, it was an extremely difficult weekend for us. We lacked pace and struggled to put everything together. There are quite a few things we need to reflect on and analyze, and from there, it’s really just about moving forward. I think the whole team knows what it takes, so instead of being disappointed, we’ll take the lessons from this weekend," said Conrad Laursen.

"That said, our full focus is now on the 24 Hours of Spa, which is the next round and naturally the highlight of the year. Our win at Paul Ricard in the opening round is proof that we have the car and the team to be among the best, and we’re still leading the championship. Of course, it would’ve been great to head into Spa with a stronger result, but our optimism remains intact," the Dane added.

The 24 Hours of Spa – the third round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup – takes place on June 28–29. A massive grid of 76 GT3 cars is expected for this year’s edition of the Belgian endurance classic.
