Kevin Magnussen returns to FIA WEC battle in Brazil

Danish BMW factory driver Kevin Magnussen is looking forward to resuming his FIA World Endurance Championship campaign as the second half of the season kicks off at Interlagos this weekend.

After a one-off drive at the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours two weeks ago, Magnussen is back in familiar territory as he lines up for round five of the FIA World Endurance Championship this weekend. The six-hour world championship race takes place at the Interlagos circuit in São Paulo, Brazil – a track the Dane has raced several times in a Formula 1 car, but never before in a Hypercar.

“It’ll be an interesting experience, as always. The tracks feel completely different in a Hypercar compared to a Formula 1 car, so you basically start from scratch and focus on learning the circuit as quickly as possible,” says Kevin Magnussen.

The Dane and his teammates, Dries Vanthoor and Raffaele Marciello, are hungry for a strong result after a challenging Le Mans, where the trio remained in the leading group until the closing stages of the 24-hour race, when a technical issue forced the team out of contention.

“After a race like that, it’ll be good to get back in the car and chase a new result. The team scored points at Interlagos last year, which was their first season in the world championship, and considering the progress we’ve made since then, there’s every reason to hope for a strong race. I’m looking forward to getting to work.”

Practice and qualifying for round five of this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship will take place on Friday 11 July and Saturday 12 July, with the six-hour race set to go green on Sunday 13 July at 11:30 local time. The race will be broadcast live on Eurosport and FIA WEC TV.
