Internet Week Denmark: The much anticipated launch of DiscoverCity

There are more than 12 000 new students in Aarhus every year. Many of them are from different towns or countries and are completely new to the culture life of Aarhus. The following questions come to them naturally – “Where can I go?”, “What can I do?”, “What are the best places to hang out with friends?”.DiscoverCity is the app that answers all of these questions. The app was launched half an hour ago during the event Launch of DiscoverCity and is expected to be a big success among young people in Aarhus – not only newcomers, but also students that have been living there for a while. The app contains information in the following categories: Study, Food, Culture, Nature, Fun and Sport. You can navigate, view the places and even suggest one.

The story behind DiscoverCity is also very interesting – the idea was first developed by Juraj Pal, a student in Aarhus University, as a part of a city branding competition, which he won. The application was developed in cooperation with Aarhus University, Aarhus Kommune and others. Jozef Simo, a student in Multimedia Design, joined the team as a coder of the application. The content was created by a team of volunteers, also students in Aarhus, who have been through the “exploring” phase of the newcomers and are now aware of very nice spots that deserve to be in the application. Juraj Pal and Jozef Simo recently started a company and are putting hard work to support the app alongside with their studies. We wish them luck!
