Huawei Launches European Health Platform Terve Research and Unveils HUAWEI WATCH D3
Huawei officially announced its European health research platform, Terve Research, and unveiled the new HUAWEI WATCH D3 at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2026. The announcements cover a dedicated research platform for academic and medical institutions, a new smartwatch with CE-marked blood pressure monitoring and two clinical studies launching in September.
Terve Research – Where Medical Expertise Meets Innovation
Terve Research is a dedicated digital research platform for European academic and medical institutions. Through the platform, research partners can publish and manage large-scale health studies and recruit smartwatch users. The platform creates new opportunities in digital health research by providing researchers with extensive access to real-world health data while maintaining high standards of security and privacy.
The name Terve Research comes from the Finnish word for health and is pronounced tehr-veh. Terve Research consists of an app and a web-based platform designed for medical researchers. The platform can automatically collect data from Huawei smartwatches in accordance with applicable regulations and established practices for privacy and data use.
Terve Research is funded by Huawei but is independently managed and operated by Thryve, one of Europe’s established medical technology providers. The platform allows medical and health researchers to collect real-world data through Huawei smartwatches in two different ways. In closed studies, researchers recruit selected participants directly and provide them with devices. In open studies, eligible Huawei smartwatch users in Europe can independently discover and voluntarily enrol in relevant research projects through the Terve Research app.
Once participants have provided their consent, the platform automatically collects the data required by the study in anonymised form and at the intervals specified by the researchers. The data is then made available for analysis. By connecting researchers with Huawei’s extensive European user base, Terve Research simplifies participant recruitment, reduces research costs and enables larger studies based on real-world data.
Terve Research stands out by holding two ISO certifications: ISO 27001 for information security and ISO 9001 for quality management. The platform also fully complies with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regarding health data. Through exclusive integration with Huawei’s smartwatch ecosystem, the platform ensures data consistency and reliability across all participating studies.
Two Groundbreaking Research Projects on Terve Research
Terve Research is launching with two studies in September, demonstrating how the platform can support research into current health challenges:
- Social jetlag study – Professor Ramin Khatami, Head of Sleep Medicine at University Hospital Zurich and one of the founders of the European Narcolepsy Network (EU-NN), is leading the project. The study investigates how disruptions to circadian rhythms affect the health of wearable users across Europe. Its objective is to identify associations between irregular sleep-wake patterns and effects on cardiovascular health and metabolism.
- Physical activity and cardiovascular health study – Professor Tomasz Guzik, Chair of the Programme Committee at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), is leading the study. The project investigates the relationship between different physical activity patterns and risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Using Huawei’s sensor technology, the study can collect continuous and detailed data on physical activity and heart health.
The collaborations demonstrate how Terve Research can connect leading medical researchers across Europe with the growing community of wearable users. This creates new opportunities to translate research into practical applications. The project also demonstrates how Huawei’s expanding smartwatch ecosystem and health platform can contribute to the development of preventive healthcare. As the global cardiology community gathers to advance cardiovascular care, Huawei is placing research collaboration and new technology in the spotlight.
HUAWEI WATCH D3 – High-Precision Blood Pressure Monitoring
Alongside the launch of Terve Research, Huawei also unveiled HUAWEI WATCH D3, which will be available globally from 2 September 2026. The new smartwatch is designed for advanced blood pressure monitoring directly from the wrist.
Designed for comfortable everyday use – HUAWEI WATCH D3 features a slim design and a lightweight strap, making it comfortable to wear throughout the day. Available in three refined colours, it is equally suited to professional settings and an active everyday lifestyle.
Blood pressure monitoring in connection with exercise – HUAWEI WATCH D3 is the world’s first device for blood pressure monitoring in connection with exercise to meet the relevant ISO standards. The watch measures blood pressure before and after physical activity, provides personalised recommendations on exercise intensity and helps users establish long-term exercise habits. The measurements maintain clinical-grade accuracy even at higher heart rates.
CE Medical Device Certification[1] – HUAWEI WATCH D3 is CE-marked for several types of blood pressure monitoring: resting blood pressure measurement, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), and blood pressure measurement before and after exercise. New smart features include reminders during stays at high altitudes and in the event of sudden temperature changes. These reminders alert users to situations in which it may be particularly important to measure their blood pressure.[2]
In addition to blood pressure monitoring, HUAWEI WATCH D3 offers expanded health overview and health insight features, improved sleep monitoring and additional features for emotional wellbeing. Further information about these features will be presented during the official launch event.
Huawei’s Continued Commitment to Digital Health
Huawei’s work in digital health monitoring, presented at ESC Congress 2026, is built on collaborations with more than 160 healthcare and research institutions worldwide. The company’s network includes more than ten research centres, including three major laboratories specialising in sports and health science, which contribute to the advancement of cardiovascular care.
Huawei wearables have strengthened the company’s role in digital health and are used to provide users with daily insights into their health. The launch of HUAWEI WATCH D3, which will be available globally from 2 September 2026, represents another step in Huawei’s efforts to make advanced health monitoring accessible to more people.
Availability and Further Information
Further information about availability, pricing and full specifications will be announced during Huawei’s official launch event on 2 September 2026 and through Huawei’s official channels.
[1] Please note that the blood pressure measurement feature is intended to support users in monitoring their everyday wellbeing. It is not intended to replace an assessment by a healthcare professional or to be used as a clinical tool for diagnosing health conditions.
[2] Seek emergency medical attention immediately in an emergency or if you feel faint. The blood pressure monitor is not intended to detect heart attacks, cardiac arrhythmias or other life-threatening conditions.
