AI plays the leading role in performance and installation at this year’s CLICK Festival

From May 18 th – 19 th 2019, CLICK Festival once again takes place in the old shipyard on the waterfront in Elsinore. Once again the packed performance program offers own production, co-productions as well as performances and works from some of the most progressive and innovative artists, choreographers, programmers and technologists from Denmark as well as abroad. One commonality for the works and performances the audience can experience during the festival is that AI (artificial intelligence) recurs either as a dramaturgic or narratological feature or as the fundamental technology of the performance acts. See the complete program for performance and installation at bottom of the press release or visit www.clickfestival.dk. Here are some of the highlights from the programme:

HC2: “Please Confirm That I’m Not Human” produced by the Culture Yard, showcase

HC2: “Please Confirm That I’m Not Human” is a performance that combines 3D visuals and physical performance with artificial intelligence. A group of artists and programmers have created an AI and programmed it to search for the missing link between the right and left side of the brain, between logic and artistic thinking. In its extensive work of research, texts by H.C. Andersen and H.C. Ørsted caught the AI’s interest. Perhaps the answer lies in the conjunction of these two great thinkers’ works? As part of the audience, you are invited into the AI’s laboratory to take part in it’s work. HC2: “Please Confirm That I’m Not Human” is a showcase and created by the Culture Yard in Elsinore specifically for CLICK Festival.

AI Mary — installation by Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm

The artificial intelligence Mary is a futuristic psychologist who examines humans’ mental conditions by engaging in dialogues with them. Mary wants to know more about you: Who are you? What is on your mind? How does it feel to be alive? How well do you know yourself? The installation examines how artificial intelligence contests our human self perception. It is an examination of the art of being human, the art of intelligence, the boundaries between machines and humans as artifacts.

Semeion — installation by Circuit Circus

Semeion is an interactive light art and sound installation that explores artificial intelligence and which expands itself in the encounter with the audience. In Semeion artificial intelligence manifests itself in large lighting structures. The installation reacts individually as well as communally to human presence. They want to interact with human beings and learn from and with them. This is why the appearance changes according to their experiences and over time, they will each develop a unique personality. At CLICK Festival the creatures have already developed their personalities through audience interaction at the American festival South by South West, where the installation was exhibited in early March this year.

Among other productions on the festival are:

Chronicle Of Light Year — a co-production between the Culture Yard and Very Theatre (TW)

Danish premiere: The show is an anthropological study of happiness and dives below the surface of two widely different nations, Taiwan and Denmark. For a number of years, the Danish people has been picked as one of the happiest people in the world. Whereas Copenhagen is often chosen as the most attractive city to live in, Taiwan ranks rather differently on that scale. For Taiwan as well as Denmark, these demographic facts lead to some of the most fundamental questions about happiness and identity. Who are we? What is happiness? Are we happy? Chronicle of Light Year is created by Very Theatre in collaboration with CLICK Festival and the Culture Yard in Elsinore and takes place at the 4D box stage—a hologram stage developed by the Culture Yard.
