Leading artists meet in dialogue at The Royal Danish Theatre: Copenhagen Photo Festival launches new talk series FREMKALDT

Marie Hald meets Firoozeh Bazrafkan, Søren Solkær meets Kasper Eistrup, and Petra Kleis meets Noah Umur Kanber — three evenings of art, photography and conversations about creativity and contemporary life.

For the first time ever, Copenhagen Photo Festival presents FREMKALDT — a new talk series where some of Denmark’s most acclaimed photographers and artists come together for informal and open conversations about contemporary art and photography.

Over the course of three unique evenings in The Balcony Foyer at the Royal Danish Theatre, conversation takes center stage as two artists meet for an intimate dialogue. The audience is offered a rare opportunity to get up close to the creative processes, personal motivations, and ideas behind some of Denmark’s most influential artists, whose work shapes both the cultural scene and the public discourse.

On stage, audiences will experience award-winning photographer Marie Hald in conversation with the visual artist and outspoken advocate for freedom of expression, Firoozeh Bazrafkan. The talk will be moderated by Gustav Hagild, radio host and culture journalist at Denmark’s national broadcaster, P1 (DR). The following evening, photographer Søren Solkær — known for his iconic portraits of international cultural figures and his images of Black Sun in the marshlands of Southern Denmark — will meet artist and former lead singer of Kashmir, Kasper Eistrup. He recently featured in DR’s Kunstnerkolonien series and is today a highly regarded visual artist. Their conversation will be moderated by journalist and author Birgitte Ellemann Höegh. The final evening brings together Petra Kleis, one of Denmark’s most influential portrait photographers, and Noah Umur Kanber, a rising trans artist who also participated in Kunstnerkolonien. Together, they will reflect on identity and staging in contemporary art. The talk will be moderated by literary critic and author Bodil Skovgaard Nielsen.

Three evenings, six powerful voices, and an exclusive glimpse into the beating heart of contemporary art — right in the midst of Copenhagen Photo Festival’s main exhibitions at the Royal Danish Theatre.

- We created FREMKALDT as a space for reflection and presence amid the festival’s energy and visual intensity. Here, audiences and the press gain access to conversations that rarely take place in the public sphere," says Festival Director Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen.
