Canon announces the newest talent of its EMEA Ambassador Programme: Annika Haas, the first-ever Estonian photographer to join this prestigious initiative

Since its inception in 2008, the Canon EMEA Ambassador programme has grown into one of the most influential industry initiatives bringing photographers, videographers and cinematographers together, to share their knowledge and skill with the wider imaging community. This year, marking the most comprehensive programme update in the past three years, 62 new cross-discipline creators will join the ranks.

Following a rigorous selection process by a panel of industry experts, this year’s intake will play a pivotal role in advancing the programme’s goals. These include fostering strong relationships between Canon and the professional community, to support, educate, inspire and nurture visual storytellers at all levels in a shared passion. New artistic voices will be key to this conversation, and we are extremely happy to welcome Annika Haas from Estonia into the programme.

Annika Haas is a documentary and portrait photographer whose personal work has focused on members of smaller communities or sub-groups within wider society. Her images have appeared in prestigious publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post and Der Spiegel. "Being a part of the Canon Ambassador program certainly offers new creative challenges, but it is also certainly a great honour to be chosen among photographers with very different and exciting visions and approaches. However, my expectations are related to the fact that by dealing with marginalized social groups through my photo stories, there is an opportunity to give a stronger voice to these members of suppressed communities or social strata. Whether they are the Roma as ethnic minorities, young people fighting for the environment and the diversity of nature, or LGBT+ people standing up for their rights. My goal is to come forward with these topics more, and the Canon Ambassador program certainly provides a great opportunity to address the wider public or different audience here.”
