Auton rengaskumi lenkkarissa pitää juoksijan lenkkipolulla
Autonrenkaan on pysyttävä tiukasti kiinni tienpinnassa, oli keli sitten kuiva, kylmä tai sateinen. Samaan tähtää myös juoksijan lenkkari. Rengaskumia hyödynnetäänkin nykyään myös kengänpohjissa, sillä usean adidaksen juoksukenkämallin ulkopohjassa on paikoittain käytetty Continentalin rengaskumiseosta.
