Anna Hofsten is our Teacher of the Year

Anna Hofsten

Anna Hofsten, senior lecturer in medical and nursing science at the Faculty of Health and Occupational Studies, is our “Teacher of the Year.” She will receive the award from the Vice-Chancellor in connection with the University’s Academic ceremony on 20 April.

Anna Hofsten has worked within nursing programmes since 1994 and at the University of Gävle since 1999. She has taught medical science and, above all, the nursing programme and the specialist nursing programme in primary health care as well as advanced courses on cardiac care.

Passion for her subject

Teacher of the Year is a prize awarded by Gefle Student Union based on nominations from the University’s students. Their selection is motivated in the following words:

“Anna is a teacher who cares immensely about making sure that all of her students understand what she is teaching. By pointing out what is relevant, she ensures that her students are not overwhelmed by information, a fact which makes studying easier. Anna uses methods which facilitates learning and makes lectures and seminars interesting and stimulating. Her own knowledge and her passion for her subject add something very special and she deserves to be rewarded for her teaching.”

“Oh, that’s great! I am very pleased that the students want my way of teaching to be rewarded. Having good medical knowledge, to understand oneself so as to be able to explain to patients the complex ways in which the body functions is very important for an independent nurse ,” Anna Hofsten says.

The award amounts to 15 000 SEK to be used for work-related purposes.
