Media accreditation for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona

“Like a jewel in the sun” was how Montserrat Caballé and Freddy Mercury described Barcelona in their famous song about the city. The cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region–known worldwide for its art, architecture and vibrancy–is shining even brighter as preparations are well underway to welcome the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup and its teams.

All the teams’ bases are located within the Port Vell area and surrounded by the America’s Cup Race Village where tens of thousands of spectators can be accommodated daily. The racecourse, just outside the port entrance breakwaters, is set in front of significant fan zones, beach viewing platforms and a hospitality area to provide the perfect vista.

Media accreditation for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) is now open. The media accreditation will cover the Barcelona Preliminary Regatta, the Louis Vuitton Cup (Challenger Selection Series) and the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match. Accreditation will also be valid for all events around the Unicredit Youth America’s Cup and the Puig Women’s America’s Cup events. Full calendar timeline can be found HERE

Barcelona Preliminary Regatta

Taking place between the 22-25th August 2024, all six of the America’s Cup teams (Defender + five Challengers) will race each other in one-on-one match-racing format and, for the first time, on their new AC75 yachts, with Round Robins followed by a Semi-Final and Final to decide the winner of the Preliminary Regatta.

Louis Vuitton Cup - Round Robin 1 & 2 (All boats race against each other on one-on-one match-racing format)

The Louis Vuitton Cup begins with two Round Robins, which will see Emirates Team New Zealand compete - the last time they will race against the Challengers until a Challenger is selected and meets them in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup. The Round Robin stages begin on the 29th August and run through to 11th September. At the conclusion, one boat will be eliminated.

Louis Vuitton Cup - Semi-Final

Running from the 14th-23rd September, the top four teams will pair off and race in a first-to-five race win elimination format with the winning boat from the Round Robin series selecting their opponent.

Louis Vuitton Cup - Final

The top two boats from the Semi-Final round will progress to contest the first-to-seven Final for the prestigious Louis Vuitton Cup. The winner advances to challenge for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup. The Final is scheduled for 26th September through to the 7th October.

Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match

Scheduled for the 12th-27th October 2024, the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match is a first-to-seven regatta for the America’s Cup trophy and the right to be Defender of the 38th America’s Cup.

Unicredit Youth America’s Cup

Scheduled for the 17th-22nd September, the opening races of the Unicredit Youth America’s Cup where 12 teams will participate on AC40 yachts will be fleet races to decide the top two boats who will then proceed to race in a Final which will be one-on-one match racing and is scheduled to be held in between races of the Louis Vuitton Cup Final on the 26th September 2024.

Puig Women’s America’s Cup

The format and boat class is the same for the Puig Women’s America’s Cup with fleet racing taking place from the 5th-10th October to decide the top two teams out of the 12-strong all female fleet who will then contest the Final in between races of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match on the 12th October 2024.

The International Media Centre for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup

The International Media Centre in Barcelona will be at the World Trade Centre in the Port Vell, close to the harbour entrance for those taking to the water and a short walk to the public Race Village and the America’s Cup team bases.

The Media Centre will offer a variety of services to accredited media members, including boats for photographers (please note there will be limited spaces that will need to be requested), daily press briefings with the Regatta Director and a daily mixed zone after the races. The complete daily programme and opening date and times of the media centre, will be shared in due course.
