  • 3 doctoral degrees in Cermaq in 1 month

    With two new doctoral degrees in Cermaq's fish health group in Bergen, the research group of five has completed three doctoral degrees in only one month. Cermaq has made use of the Norwegian Research Council's scheme for “industrial PhD”.

    We have always known that exercise is good for you, but now we know the optimal level of exercise for our young fish. It is the speed of the water flow that determines the exercise or the speed of swimming. The optimal speed of the water keeps the salmon smolt strong and healthy.     Cermaq has implemented a new fish welfare policy based on the framework and recommendations in the FishWell report. While Cermaq already reports on a broad set of fish health and welfare indicators, this is the first step towards developing KPIs for measuring fish welfare as defined in FishWell.

    As the first business partner and a founding patron to the action platform, Cermaq has been active in the formation of the UN Global Compact Action Platform for Sustainable Ocean Business. The action platform is launched today, on the World Oceans Day, at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
